The Story
In the midst of what I like to call a mid-college crisis, I co-founded Jot Magazine, a digital campus culture publication. At the time, I had no internships and no prior experience, but I really wanted (and needed) to acquire both. I went in headstrong, though I didn’t really know what I was in for. All I knew for certain was that I found myself hilarious and that I was capable of building an attractive website. But I was determined to start something great, and that took a lot of trial, error and questioning. Who is our target audience? What do we write about? How do we keep people engaged? How do we separate ourselves from the other publications on campus? Are we really capable of doing this?
Though it wasn’t easy, I learned what it takes to not only be a writer, but also to be a good leader, a productive creator, and a good business partner (even though “business” usually implies that there’s money involved, and in this case, there wasn’t any). And most valuably, I learned that
